Joseph Jones is a WW2 veteran aged 94 who lives in Rowley Regis in the West Midlands. Joseph served in the navy on a destroyer escorting merchant ships on the treacherous Arctic Convoys that took supplies to the Russians as part of the Lend-Lease program. Russia recently awarded him a medal for his part in the supply convoys. He invited me into his home and allowed me take photographs and to share stories about his life.
I spent some time with Graham Walker photographing and recording him for the Our Spake project. He shared his thoughts with me on being part of the Black Country and the importance of treasuring its heritage. He speaks with passion of a life rich with experience – you can hear a sample of our recording below, and view some of the images taken in his house and garden.
