I am a UK based practitioner with over 20 years of experience of working across different creative fields in a range of complementary roles.
My background is in photography and the moving image and I have a BA (Hons) in Photographic Studies and completed an MPhil research degree in Digital Realist Montage (University of Derby) in 1997. I have significant experience of teaching in higher education including at the University of Derby, the University of Sunderland, and the University of Auckland, in the areas of photography, design, and digital media.
I have a successful practice as an independent artist, photographer and filmmaker. I have taken part in several national and international residencies and undertaken numerous significant commissions. Some of the residencies include Durham Cathedral, The Innovation Centre Teesside, Jubilee Arts West Bromwich, Snibston Discovery Centre, and Medialab-Prado, Madrid. My work has been exhibited and presented across the UK and in many parts of the world including Germany, Taiwan, United States, Switzerland, Spain and Holland.
A key part of my wider practice is in the area of creative support and facilitation. I often work with individuals, community groups, schools, cultural organisations, and charities in the roles of mentoring, consultation, evaluation, and the leading of many different kinds of creative/developmental workshops.
I enjoy being involved in projects as a collaborator and flexible team member. This includes working the areas of project development and lead/management. Over the 10 years this has included developing many projects for The Public in West Bromwich, working with Wildworks Theatre as production manager, and as the lead on the recent Our Spake project.
My overall practice is about working alongside diverse individuals and communities to creatively and critically engage in meaningful and positive ways. My creative practice is often about recording stories from the everyday and presenting them back in ways that deepen our understanding of each other. Some of my current interests are focused around the exploration of cultural and community memory and its relationship to different kinds of photographic collections and personal archives.
I am currently based in Birmingham in the UK.
